š¶ Growing Pups, Changing Nursing Time! Momma is Standing While Nursing! š¼ (January 2025 litters)
Updated: Feb 26
Our sweet Dolly & RebaĀ are adjusting to their growing puppies, and weāve hit another milestoneā
momma is starting to stand while nursing!Ā š„°
At almost 3 weeks old, these little ones are getting stronger and more mobile, and nursing dynamics are shifting. Instead of always lying down to feed, mom is now standing while nursing, which helps in a few key ways:
āØ Encourages Puppies to Strengthen Their LegsĀ ā They now have to balance on wobbly legs and reach up for milk, helping improve coordination and muscle strength.
āØ Gives Mom a Little More ComfortĀ ā As puppies get bigger (and hungrier!), standing allows mom to nurse without all of them piling on top of her at once.
āØ Natural Weaning BeginsĀ ā This is the first step toward gradually transitioning the puppies away from full-time nursing. It helps them get used to new nursing positions and, eventually, eating on their own.
Itās amazing to see how quickly these little ones are growing and adapting! Soon, theyāll be walking more confidently, playing with each other, and starting to explore beyond their whelping box.Ā š
Weāll keep sharing their progress, but for now, weāre just enjoying watching these pups become stronger, more independent, and full of curiosity!Ā š¾
